Reasoned Christianity
The Christian convictions that guide this publication.
We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is holy, loving, just, and sovereign, the Creator and sustainer of all things. The three persons share the one divine being.
We believe that the Old and New Testaments are God’s inspired written Word, trustworthy and authoritative for Christian faith and life. We seek to interpret each passage in its context and in harmony with the whole of Scripture.
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived without sin, died for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended to the Father. He is Lord and the mediator between God and humanity.
God made human beings in His image, giving each person dignity. We have sinned and need reconciliation with God. We believe that salvation is God’s gift of grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot earn salvation through good works. Repentance and a life of obedience belong to the response of faith.
We believe that the Holy Spirit brings new life, indwells believers, and forms them in holiness. He equips Christians to serve God and love their neighbors. Christians differ about the exercise of particular spiritual gifts; we do not make one position on that question a condition of Christian fellowship.
We believe that the church is the people of God united to Christ. Christians gather for worship, hear Scripture, pray, practice baptism and the Lord’s Supper, serve one another, and bear witness to the gospel. We recognize differences among Christian traditions concerning baptism and church order.
We believe that Jesus Christ will return, that God will raise the dead and judge the world in righteousness, and that His people will enjoy eternal life with Him. We affirm God’s final judgment and the renewal of creation. We do not require one end-times chronology or use predictions to set dates for Christ’s return.
